Cape Town -
The National Road N7 leads from Cape Town through Namaqualand in the North West of South Africa up to the Namibian border.
Who has enough time to spare, should first travel the coastal road R27 to Langebaan and visit the wonderful West Coast National Park before intercepting the N7 north of Malmesbury on the R45. At Clanwilliam a detour into the mountain world of the Cedarberg ranges is recommended or to the fishing village of Lamberts Bay at the coast.
North of Vanrhynsdorp the landscape is wide and open. Here begins the vast semi-desert of Namaqualand with its capital Springbok. During the "wildflower season" between July and September the region is covered with wildflowers in all colours.
Springbok boasts a good offer in services. It is another 140 kilometres to the Namibian border at the Orange River. The N14 leads via Pofadder to Upington, starting point for a trip to the Kalahari.
